Amazing South African Silver & Enamel ‘Candida’ Brooch

This large, sterling silver brooch of a Zulu lady in tribal headdress, in relief, has amazing detail. The large Zulu tribal earrings are decorated with red, white and blue enamel. It is in excellent condition and measures 5.5cm x 3.5cm. It is stamped ‘CANDIDA’ ‘STERLING SILVER’ on the back. This mark was used by a creative South African jeweller and silversmith called ‘JOE CALAFATO’ who was active between 1947 and 1984. This piece was manufactured between 1947 and 1951.
