Antique Cased Sterling Silver Christening Set (1902)
This very early, great quality, solid silver christening set, with its original fitted case, is in excellent condition and appears to have never been used. It comprises of a silver fork, silver spoon and a lovely ‘mother of pearl’ handled silver knife. The three pieces have been beautifully engraved with a lovely pattern, and the spoon & fork have blank cartouches. Each piece is clearly hallmarked for Sheffield, England 1902 and stamped ‘JD WD’ for silversmiths ‘John & William Deakin’. The set comes with its original leatherette case, lined with red satin and velvet, and the lid is stamped by the original retailers ‘SAMUEL EDGCUMBE’ ‘Manufacturer & Importer’. They measure in length, spoon 14cm, fork 14,5cm, knife 15,5cm and together weigh 68,3g. The case measures 21cm x 10cm x 3cm.
