Antique Queen Victoria ‘1887’ Empire Jubilee Plate

This impressive, antique, commemorative plate celebrating Queen Victoria’s golden Jubilee in 1887 is in excellent condition with wonderful detail. Octagonal in shape, it depicts portraits of Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales with crests of Australia, Canada, Cape Colony and India showing the extent of the British Empire at the time, listing the value of imports and exports, its population figures and a maps of the world highlighting their empire, as well as a central compass motif with the motto ‘THE EMPIRE ON WHICH THE SUN NEVER SETS’. The black transfer is painted, in places, in blue, red and yellow colours with gold leaf highlights and a gold leaved edged border. The plate measures 24,5cm x 24,5cm and is stamped ‘AS ACCEPTED BY HER MAJESTY’ on the back along with the Registered Design number ‘RdNo.63164’.
