Antique Russian Silver ‘Niello’ Box

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Russian silver niello box. In a rectangular form with shaped sides, rounded corners and hinged lid. It is stamped ‘MK 1820’ – Mikhail Mikhailovich Karpinsky (Moscow 1800-1824). There are 4 other stamps – AR and 84 and 2 others I can’t identify. The box is in good condition with no dents or repairs but has some niello missing in places on both sides. The interior shows signs of original gilding. It measures 8.6cm in length, 6.5cm in width, 1.7mm in depth and weighs 98.8g.
