British – WWI ‘Gun Sighting Telescope’ (W. OTTWAY & CO. 1913)

This heavy, large, original, brass No. 7 (Mark 1) British Artillery/Naval sighting telescope was manufactured by ‘W. Ottway & Co.’ in Ealing, London in 1913. It seems to be in good condition with nice clear optics and great magnification. It is fully marked with the manufacturer’s details, model number, date as well as the military issue Broad Arrow stamp. The inscription stamped in the brass reads: ‘Telescope Sighting No 7 (Mark I), W. OTTWAY & Co. Ltd, EALING, 1913, No. 139.’ It weighs a heavy 4395g and measures 75cm in length x 6.5cm in width (at its widest).

Note: ‘W. Ottway & Co.’ was established in 1640 in London. They became well known opticians and by the late 1800’s were manufacturing a wide range of scientific instruments. They then went on to make Naval & Military gun sighting telescopes, sextants, telescopes etc.
