Exceptional Rare Antique Wedgwood Trophy Plate

This very rare black and white Wedgwood jasperware plate is of exceptional quality and was produced in the 1860/70’s. This particular plate has the neo-classical picture of ‘Venus hiding Cupids arrows’ on it, which is also a very rare scene that is seldom seen on a piece of Wedgwood. You actually need to zoom in on the pictures below to fully comprehend the fine detailing on this piece. These trophy plates were so special, that in the 1960’s, the Wedgwood factory reproduced a limited edition of them for their Prestige Range. Whilst researching this piece I came across a number of plates, but most of these were from the reproduced range of the 60’s. Only a few were the original ones – one sold on E-bay in Feb 2019 for R24000. This rare and unique piece is in excellent condition and measures 21.8cm in diameter.
