Impressive Victorian Silver & Enamel Masonic Medal (1891)

Sold!

This very impressive, fine quality, ornate solid silver gilt and enamel, Victorian ‘founder Jewel’ of the ‘Ordnance Lodge No.2399’ is exceptionally well made. It features a cut-out, very detailed coat of arms of the ‘Board of Ordnance’ in three-dimensional detail, with blue, red, and white enamel. Above the coat of arms are the words ‘ORDNANCE LODGE 2399’ and below is the motto ‘SUA TELA TONANTI’, all in blue enamel. The medal hangs from its original dark blue and red striped ribbon, with a silver pin and bar across the top, with the words ‘Founder 1891’ in red enamel. It is English hallmarked on the back for London 1890, with a jeweller’s makers mark ‘P.S’, that I’ve been unable to identify. The medal is in excellent condition, with a lovely soft gilding and no damage whatsoever to the enamel. With the ribbon it measures 10cm in length, and on its own, the medal measures 5,5cm x 5cm, and together it weighs 27,8g.
