Large Antique Solid Silver ‘George II’ Tray/Salver (1753)
R59,500.00
This superb, large, heavy, circular, sterling silver Georgian tray or salver, was made in London, England in 1753 by silversmith ‘William Peaston’ (WP), who specialised in making fine quality trays and salvers. It has a lovely, raised pie crust border with ‘scroll’ detailed edges, along with a wide, beautifully decorated band of flowers with acanthas leaves and bunches of fruit with grapes and apples. The tray has a very attractive, engraved armorial in the centre surrounded with a lovely border of chased flowers and stands on three ‘paw’ feet. This fabulous tray is in excellent condition with clear hallmarks and honestly, one of the nicest I’ve come across. It measures 33cm in diameter, stands 3,5cm high and weighs exactly 1000g.
