Rare 1940’s Winston Churchill ‘Wishbone’ Figure (R. Whiting)
R1,450.00
This scarce, very unusual, unique small figure of ‘Winston Churchill’ was hand created by ‘Robert Whiting’ (see below), using a real chickens wishbone in its structure with moulded small pieces of clay. It’s hand painted and well-made with typical ‘Churchill’ hat and cigar features, all in wonderful detail. Sadly, the top of his bolo hat is missing, otherwise it’s in great condition and stands up on his own. It measures 6cm wide and stands 6,5cm high.
NOTE: ‘Robert Whiting’ was an artist and puppeteer from Devon, England who made pottery for tourist visitors to his hometown of Newquay. He was killed in WW2 on the 23rd of April 1941 during the Blitz on Plymouth whilst serving as a fireman at the age of 28. He was one of five firemen killed when their tender received a direct hit from a parachute bomb.
