Rare ‘Royal Irish Constabulary’ Cast Iron Plaque

Sold!

This original, very early, large and very heavy cast iron painted ‘Royal Irish Constabulary’ Barracks Plaque with Kings Crown, was in use for a short period from 1901 to 1922. I believe this to be an original one, as the copies were made of a lightweight alloy, and it was previously owned by the late ‘Mervyn Mitton’, author of the book ‘The Policeman’s Lot’ (a book on antique British police equipment). The plaque is in excellent condition and appears to have been carefully re-painted at a later stage, in the correct colours with a good quality enamel paint. It measures 39,5cm x 23,5cm x 6cm and weighs a heavy 7kg.
