Very Rare Miniature ‘1799 London Almanac’ (George III)
This rare, very old miniature George III ‘London Almanack, for the year of Christ 1799’, is in excellent condition, which is amazing considering it’s 220 years old. The miniature book and slip case are bound in a cream leather which have been beautifully decorated in a floral gilt pattern, and all the pages have gold leaf edges. This Almanac, from the year 1799, provides all sorts of useful information for that period, such as a 12-month calendar, astronomical data (Phases of the moon), a table of Kings and Queens from the year 1066 to the year 1799, a table of Lord Mayors and Sheriffs from the year 1758 to the year 1779, a list of holidays, and a table of the current gold & silver coins with their weights. The front page explains how to read this Almanac, and has the red duty stamp as required, on the top left corner. Other than a few small dirt stains on the slip case, the Almanac and case are in excellent condition, and it measures 6,2cm x 3,8cm x 0,6cm.
This Almanac was found in a rare antique miniature ‘Leather Desktop Safe’, which I have listed separately for sale on my site.
Note: After re-searching this incredible piece, I’ve realised how rare and expensive some of them are, especially one’s from the 1700’s, I came across a few on the internet for sale, varying in price between R5000 – R15000 each.
