Victorian 18ct Gold & Red Coral Cameo Brooch
This scarce, superb, antique 18ct gold cameo brooch features a beautifully hand carved piece of red coral, depicting a forward-facing classical portrait of a lady with grape vines and grapes in her hair, usually representing ‘Bacchante’, a female follower of ‘Bacchus’ the roman god of wine and fertility. The cameo is surrounded with a beautifully decorated 18ct gold frame with wonderful relief detail. This superb piece is in excellent condition with a secure pin and measures 4cm x 3cm with a weight of 10,9g.
The brooch comes with a detailed valuation, with a replacement of R18 500, a copy of which is listed in the photographs. (This was done by a very reputable Gemmologist but doesn’t take antiquity and rarity into consideration).
