Victorian German Porcelain Fairing
R895.00
This scarce, very collectable, Victorian porcelain ornament known as a ‘fairing’, depicts an early Victorian scene of a gentleman holding a baby, standing beside a lady lying in bed, with the caption ‘Twelve months after marriage’ written along the bottom. It’s a small, heavy, rectangular based white porcelain ornament, highlighted in places with various colours. ‘Fairings’ were small porcelain ornaments given away as prizes at the fairgrounds in England between 1850 and 1914. I believe this to be one of the early ones due to its weight and other than a small, early aged flaw on the back of the bed, it’s in great condition. It measures 9cm x 7cm, stands 9,5cm high and weighs 397g.
