WW1 – POW/Trench Art ‘G. E. AFRICA’ Brass Shell Money Box
This wonderful, heavy, ’Prisoner of War or Trench Art’ money box from the ‘German East Africa’ campaign, has been beautifully engraved and hand-crafted out of brass shell casings. It was made for a loved one and features the name ‘EILEEN’, surrounded by flowers on the front with two flags (Belgium & United Kingdom) on the back, with the date ‘1916’ above and ‘G. E. AFRICA’ below. The top has a faintly engraved ‘Springboks’ head along with case markings and the base is stamped ‘G. S. MARTIN, MARAISBURG, T-VAAL’ with numerous shell case markings. This super piece is in great condition and stands 14cm high, with a base diameter of 7cm and weighs 1,1kg.
