Antique French ‘Gold & Silver Inlaid-Tortoiseshell’ Lorgnettes

Sold!

This fabulous, fine pair of antique, French gold and silver inlaid tortoiseshell folding lorgnettes from the late 1800’s has a lovely shape and are beautifully decorated with a fine gold rope inlay on both sides and finished off with a very pretty, chased silver border to the tortoiseshell. There’s also a small, blank oval gold cartouche inlay on one side, and a French jewellers diamond-shape mark with the letters ‘LVC’, and other than a tiny piece of inlay missing (that is hardly noticeable), they’re in excellent condition, with an attractive rose-gold finish to the lens frames and sides of the handle. The handle has a small button on the side, and when pressed down, the lenses automatically unfold. The sprung folding mechanism works perfectly and clips shut when closed. Unfolded they measure 10cm lens to lens, and folded back, measure 8cm with handle.
