Antique Hand Crafted ‘Desktop’ Fold-Out Wooden Box  

This unique, very early, hand-crafted wooden fold-out desktop box has been beautifully made and intricately hand carved with lovely detail. The oval shaped container may have been used for cigarettes or cigars, or for stationary, pens etc. It has a flared, hollowed-out base with a side hinged hollow door on each side, which become the lid when closed, along with a central hinged flap going over securing the doors in place. The container has wonderful hand carved patterns around the sides and top flap, along with two ‘Birds of Paradise’ on the lids. This unusual piece is in excellent condition with a lovely dark wood patina and measures 27,5cm x 11,5cm x 6,5cm with a weight of 635g.
