Antique Surveyors Clinometer/Ruler with Compass & Spirit Level

This lovely, leather cased, antique, boxwood folding clinometer/ruler with brass mounts and attachments was made in London, by renowned British company ‘Short & Mason’ makers of precision and quality scientific instruments. They were founded in 1864 by ‘Thomas Short and William Mason’. The 12-inch ruler incorporates a brass clinometer and compass, a spirit level, along with two-fold out brass surveyor windows, one on each end. This wonderful piece is in great condition, clearly marked and functions well and comes with its original leather case. The ruler measures 16,3cm x 4,6cm folded, and is stamped on the brass joint ‘SHORT & MASON, LONDON, FOR JOHN PARDY, DURBAN’.
