Attractive ‘Victorian Glass Rummer’ (C.1860)
This very attractive, early Victorian, hand-blown glass rummer has been beautifully engraved with two urn shaped vases with flowers and garlands of leaves, with two star-cut round medallions in between. The very decorative bowl sits on a fluted and cut tapered stem and stands on a wide domed round foot with a cut/rough pontil underneath. Other than a small chip to the edge of the foot, it’s in lovely condition. The rummer stands 15,2cm high, with a foot diameter of 6,2cm, a rim diameter of 8,1cm and weighs 285g.
Note: In England, in the 18th and 19th century, a ‘rummer’ was the name given to a large drinking glass for wine with a wide bowl and short stem, sitting on a circular domed or square foot.
