Boer War – Very Rare ‘Melmoth District Rifle Ass.’ Badge

This lovely, original, rare brass slouch hat badge, worn during the Boer War, is in excellent condition. The ‘Melmoth District Rifle Association’ (M.D.R.A.) was a small, local, colonial defence unit, similar to the Town Guards and District Mounted Troops and was formed in 1895. According to the medal roll of the Q.S.A. (Queen South Africa Medal) there were only 14 medals issued to this unit. It has the makers mark ‘J. SULLIVAN’ stamped on the back and measures 5cm x 4cm.
