Early, Large ‘John Bull – Winston Churchill’ Toby Jug (Burleigh Ware)

This scarce, early, large matt-white ‘Burleigh Ware’ pottery toby jug, depicts an impressive standing ‘Winston Churchill’ wearing his traditional hat, and bow tie with a cigar in his mouth and a bulldog seated in-between his legs. It was made in England in the 1940’s by ‘Burgess & Leigh, Burleigh Ware’ and carries their backstamp on the base. The base is also impressed faintly with the words, ‘JOHN BULL CHURCHILL’ and ‘WE SHALL DEFEND EVERY VILLAGE, EVERY TOWN AND EVERY CITY’. This wonderful jug is in excellent condition and stands 28,5cm high, measures 14cm x 11,5cm and weighs 970g.
