Incredible Victorian Bohemian Garnet & Pearl Brooch
This fabulous, antique, garnet cluster flower brooch is made-up of three layers of beautifully cut and set, high quality, deep red Bohemian garnets, all in sterling silver and lightly gilded. The brooch is in the form of a flower with eight points and is exceptionally well-made, and when looked at from the side, has a slight convex shape and appears to have five levels, giving it a three-dimensional feel. The brooch features one round garnet (5,5mm) in the centre, with eight ‘pear’ shaped garnets (7mm x 4,5mm each), surrounded by eighty-eight small rose-cut garnets (2mm each) and six seed pearls around the centre stone. It is in excellent condition with a secure roll-over clasp, has a diameter of 36mm and weighs 10,4g.
This fabulous piece comes with a detailed valuation, with a replacement value of R36 600.00, a copy of which is listed below. (The valuation was done by a very reputable independent jeweller, but antiquity and rarity aren’t taken into consideration when valuing the piece).
