This fabulous, large, antique ‘Ironstone’ plate or shallow bowl was produced between 1862 and 1890 in Staffordshire, England by potters ‘George L. Ashworth & Bros’, who went on to become ‘Mason’s Ironstone China’. The plate is beautifully decorated, and hand painted in numerous patterns and colours with wonderful gilt work, in a pattern often referred to as the ‘Imari’ (1810) pattern, and other than very minor wear to the gilding, it’s in great condition. The plate measures 26cm in diameter with a depth of 3,5cm and weighs 705g, and has the following markings on the back. The very early grey ‘Coat of Arms’ stamp with the words ‘IRONSTONE CHINA’, with impressed words ‘ASHWORTH, REAL IRONSTONE’, along with the pattern number written in red ‘B 1810’.
