Magnificent Antique Georgian Silver Candlesticks (1768)

Sold!

This exceptional pair of antique, cast solid silver ‘George III’, English hallmarked candlesticks are in amazing condition, considering their age. They have been cast in heavy silver with a very attractive design and shape. The candlesticks have square shaped bases with a fluted, slightly twisted design leading up to knopped columns, with removable sconces. They are clearly silver hallmarked to the underside of their bases for London 1768, with a silversmith’s stamp ‘I.C’. and the sconce’s each carry the silversmith’s stamp. These candlesticks are in excellent condition, except for one sconce having a folding cut to the insert part, which was possibly done when made, and can’t be seen unless removed. They stand 26cm high, with a base measurement of 11,5cm x 11,3cm and together weigh a heavy 1145g.

You very seldom come across a pair of 'George III' (254 years old) solid silver candlesticks, but to come across them in this condition makes them special.
