Magnificent Pair of Victorian Silver-Plated Wine Coasters
This impressive pair of ornate, early Victorian (C.1860) silver plated wine bottle coasters have been heavily decorated with scrolls of grapes and vine leaves around the edges and have hand turned wooden bases with a small silver button in the centre. They were manufactured in Sheffield England in the early 1850/60’s by silversmiths ‘Martin Hall & Co.’ (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall), who were one of the best know British manufacturers and participated in many international exhibitions including the Great Exhibition of 1851. The coasters are a good size and can accommodate decanters as well as wine bottles. Other than some very minor signs of wear to the plating they are in excellent condition. They measure 21cm in diameter (outer edge) and 12.5cm in diameter (inner wood), stand 4cm high and have a combined weight of 870g.
