Rare Boer War Hand Carved P.O.W. Wooden Box
This very early, rare, hand carved wooden, hinged box has been exceptionally well made with the base interior divided into three sections and a loose wooden tray divided down the middle. Probably a trinket box carved by a Boer P.O.W. at one of the concentration camps, for a loved one. There is a very similar made box in the ‘S.A. National Museum of Military History’ that was carved by a Boer prisoner at the camp on St. Helena. I have attached the link for you to view (http://samilitaryhistory.org/vol113as.html )The box is in excellent condition and opens and closes well with four well placed catches. It measures 17.5cm x 13cm x 8.2cm and has a lovely weight of 990g.
