Rare British Army Brass Stove Pipe Shako Plate

Sold!

This is a regulation issue plate for a stove pipe shako that was supplied to infantry regulars between 1803 and 1812. There is a Hanoverian crown on the crest with a ‘GR’ cipher surrounded by a Garter containing the motto of the Royal family. The motto is ‘Honi soit qui mal y pence’ meaning ‘Shame on him who thinks ill of it.’ I’m honestly not sure if this is the real deal or a very early copy, either way it’s a rare find. There are no major dents or splitting but discolouration in places. On the back there are also 2 small holes on the one side and a bend loop on the other side. (as per photos). It measures 15.5cm in length and 10.5cm in width.
