A lovely, historical Boer War, sterling silver vesta case with provenance. It was presented to ‘LT. COL. W.T.F. Davies (CMG, DSO) at the end of the Boer War by General Sir, Leslie Randle (GCB, GCMG, GCVO, DSO), Officer Commanding of the 8th Division, as a token of appreciation. This rare silver vesta case is engraved with the wording ‘S. AFRICA 1900 FROM L.R.’ on the one side and the other side has the ‘8th Division Flag’ nicely engraved on it. There is a personal folded up letter in the vesta case explaining to the recipient’s grandson the provenance around it and it mentions that his grandfather (LT. COL. W.T.F. This Victorian silver vesta case is in excellent condition, with a sprung lid and is English hallmarked for ‘London 1900’. It measures 5cm x 4cm x 1.2cm and weighs 34.8g.
