Rare Victorian Mourning ‘Woven Hair’ Watch Chain (C.1870/80)

This incredible, Victorian ‘Mourning Hairwork’ fob watch chain is made from beautifully braided or woven human hair, with white metal, probably silver, mounts, T bar and catches. Attached is a silver English hallmarked pocket watch key, and a Victorian silver gilt coin (1885 NEWFOUNDLAND 20 CENTS). This amazing piece of Victorian mourning jewellery is in great condition and measures 46cm in length.

Note: Mourning jewellery represents a connection to a deceased loved one, and dates to the 16^th century, but it became popular, and more fashionable by Queen Victoria, after the death of Prince Albert in 1861. Antique pieces have now become very collectable.
