Rare Victorian Silver Lidded Meerschaum & Amber Pipe (1899)
This very rare, antique cased Meerschaum and Amber pipe has been extremely well made with English hallmarked silver mounts. It is fitted with a very seldom seen, silver hinged lockable vented or pierced lid which has been beautifully hand engraved with a floral pattern. The pipe comes with its original, velvet lined, fitted hinged case that clips shut. The case is stamped on the inside ‘Finest Warranted Meerschaum’. The end of the amber stem is damaged/missing, and I’m sure could be replaced, as it’s a separate piece that screws on. Other than the stem, the pipe and case are in excellent condition. The solid silver lid and mounts both date to 1899. The lid and frame were made in London by silversmiths ‘Adolphe Oppenheimer & Co’, and the silver collar by the mouth piece was made in Birmingham by silversmiths ’Louis Adler’. The pipe case measures 17,5cm x 6,5cm x 4cm at its widest.
