Scarce Pair of Thistle ‘Edinburgh & Leith’ Crystal Wine Glasses

Sold!

This amazing, early pair of Scottish cut-crystal wine glasses from the 1920/30’s have a wonderful thistle shape and are beautifully hand-cut and etched. They were made in the early 1900’s by the ‘Edinburgh and Leith Flint Glass Company’ (now ‘Edinburgh Crystal’) in Scotland. They have thistle shaped bowls with a row of finely detailed, hand engraved thistles along the top and a band of panel-cut squares below, then a multi diamond-cut pattern below that. The bowl sits on a tall six-sided stem which stands on a round star-cut base, with a faint acid etched stamp underneath, ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL SCOTLAND’ in a circle with ‘E&L’ in the middle. These glasses are now seldom seen and fetch very high prices when they come on the market. They’re in excellent condition and stand 12,5cm high, with a top diameter of 8,5cm, and together weigh 510g.
