Very Large 1940/50’s Moorcroft ‘Clematis’ Vase (Rare Shape)

This fabulous, very large, early ‘Walter Moorcroft’ vase from the 1940/50’s has a wonderful scarce shape and is decorated in the tube-lined, colourful ‘Clematis’ flower pattern against a cobalt blue background. It features four, large open Clematis flowers in shades of red, pink and purple, with a few flower buds amongst green leaves, all in vibrant colours against a striking dark blue background. This rare statement piece is in excellent condition with a lovely glaze, without the often-seen crazing and the decoration is crisp and clear. The base has the impressed marks ‘MOORCROFT’, ‘MADE IN ENGLAND’ and is signed by ‘Walter Moorcroft’ all in blue, a backstamp used from 1947 to 1953. The vase stands 25cm high, with a width of 18cm and weighs a heavy 2kg.
