Victorian 14ct Gold, Opal, Diamond & Ruby ‘Butterfly’ Brooch
£2,547.45
This fabulous, large, antique, gold and natural gemstone butterfly brooch from the late 1800’s, has been beautifully made and decorated with four impressive and very colourful, large pear-shaped opals for the wings, four old-cut diamonds for the body, a large ruby for the head and two small garnets for the eyes, all set in 14ct gold. The estimated weight of the gemstones is: 4 x cabochon cut opals, 2 = 5,08ct & 2 = 2,48ct and 4 x old-cut diamonds = 0,32cts and a natural round ruby = 0,54ct. Sadly one of the smaller opals has a crack through it, otherwise this wonderful brooch is in great condition with a secure pin and roll-over safety clasp. The brooch measures 4,7cm x 3,5cm and weighs 12,9g.
This scarce brooch comes with a detailed valuation, with a replacement of R84 700, a copy of which is listed in the photographs. (The valuation was done by a very reputable Gemmologist but doesn’t take antiquity and rarity into consideration).
