Victorian (London 1867) Sterling Silver Gilt Christening Mug

Sold!

This magnificent, superb quality christening mug is beautifully decorated and embossed with garlands of flowers and ladies playing the lyre harp, all in relief. It stands on a raised circular foot and has a scroll handle. It is English hallmarked for London 1867 and was crafted by the renowned London silversmith ‘George William Adams’ (G.A.) of ‘Chawner & Co.’ who was an exhibitor at the Great Exhibition in 1851. The company became one of the largest producers of top quality silver flatware in Victorian England. The mug still has its original gilding throughout, with minor wear in places. It is in outstanding condition, par for a very small dent and to top it off the cartouche has not been engraved. In 30 years of trading it is the nicest one I’ve seen. It measures 11cm in height, 11cm in depth (from handle to edge), has a base diameter of 7cm and weighs 205g.
