Wonderful Antique Silver Cased Scent Bottle (1902)
This wonderful, very unusual, antique, English hallmarked, solid silver cased glass scent bottle from the early 1900’s, has a beautifully embossed decoration on both sides. The green glass scent bottle with stopper sits inside a hinged, dome lidded, sterling silver case with a gilt or gold wash interior. Both the case and lid are hinged, and when the lid is lifted, it allows the case to be opened. The case was made in 1902 in Birmingham, England, possibly by silversmiths ‘Marion Co Ltd’ (M &Co LT), and other than tiny nicks to the top of the stopper, both the bottle and silver case are in great condition, with all hinges and catches working well. There’s an attachment near the lid for a chain, so it was probably originally worn on a chatelaine. The case measures 6,8cm x 4,8cm x 3,5cm and together with the scent bottle, weighs 70,5g.
