This scarce, WW1 9ct gold and enamel sweetheart brooch of the ‘South African Heavy Artillery’ (S.A.H.A) is in mint condition. It features the springbok head above two crossed heavy artillery guns, with the wording in blue enamel below. The solid gold brooch is identical to the collar badge worn by the S.A.H.A. during the first world war. It is English hallmarked on the back, indicating that it was made in Birmingham in 1919 by jewellers ‘George Loveridge & Co’ (G.L), and is also stamped ‘9’ and ‘.375’ (marks for 9ct gold). The brooch measures 3,2cm x 2,7cm, and weighs 4,2g.
